Ghost Leg

Put people on top and outcomes on the bottom, draw a random ladder, and trace who gets what.

About Ghost Leg

How it works

Type the people on the top row and the outcomes on the bottom row, keeping the counts equal. Draw the ladder and each line traces down through the random rungs to land on exactly one outcome, so everyone gets one and no outcome repeats.

Quick presets

Not sure what to put in? Tap a preset like chores, prizes, or duty roster to fill both rows, then edit the names and outcomes to fit your group.

Fair and private

The mapping is a fair random assignment and the ladder is drawn to match it, so every arrangement is equally likely. Names stay in your browser for this round only, with no account and no server storage.

FAQ

Common questions and answers about this topic.

Is the ladder really fair, or does the shape favor some outcomes?

It is fair. The tool first picks a fair random assignment, then builds a ladder that reproduces it, so the shape never biases the odds and every arrangement is equally likely.

Do the top and bottom rows need the same number of items?

Yes. Ghost leg maps each person to exactly one outcome, so the two rows must be equal in length. If they differ, the draw button stays disabled and a hint tells you how many to add or remove.

Do I need to install an app?

No. Ghost leg runs entirely in the browser, so you can open the page on any device and draw right away, with no install, no sign-up, and no permissions.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. The ladder and both input rows adapt to narrow screens, so you can type the names on a phone and turn the screen around to show everyone the result.

How many people can one ladder handle?

Up to 12 lines per row, so 12 people and 12 outcomes at most. Beyond that the lines get hard to follow on a phone, so split a bigger group into a few ladders or draw in rounds.

Are the names and outcomes uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything is processed in your browser for the current round only, with no account and nothing stored on a server.
